To debut her 2013 resort collection, English-born shoe designer and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award finalist Tabitha Simmons created a video that captures her striped collection of shoes in motion — in midair, to be precise. "I really wanted to have my shoe come to life, and be in action, so I thought it would be great to a find a 'New York' vibe," Simmons explained.
Their solution? Double Dutch. In her video, the camera zooms in on select members of the National Double Dutch League, who show off their fancy footwork, and of course, their shoes; the three pairs (woven platforms, wedges, and flats) featured are all more casual than her typical stilettos. And this Friday, Simmons will be showing similar styles in New York alongside fellow CFDA/Vogue winners Greg Chait and Jennifer Meyer at Milk Studios. "New York women are very busy. I'm a mother of two, work, juggle a career, and try to be a mother, and everyone seems to be in a rush, which is something I respond to," she says, referencing her first Manhattan show. "My shoes are a lifestyle, for women that want to look sexy, but also want something for the weekend." Plus, judging from the way these girls jump rope, you won't twist an ankle in them either.
