If you haven't been keeping up with the latest nail trends to take over the runways, then listen up: textured nail art is where it's at.
Backstage at Fashion Week, we spotted nail artists applying lacy fabrics, colorful beads and glitter dust on top of sleek polishes. The three-dimensional nail art continued the style story that was present in the collections and illustrated just how important manicures were in the design process.
Polish You Pretty bloggers Danielle and Jenny are also huge fans of 3D nail art, and they've created intricate looks using pearls, bows and gems. However, the duo does admit that all the layering can be a bit too much sometimes. (A manicure adorned with 3D ornaments takes a considerable amount of time to create and can become quite expensive.) So, the girls created this bumblebee manicure that incorporates the textured nail art trend simply as an accent.
Scroll down for Danielle and Jenny's step-by-step instructions to get this charming (get it?) manicure.
Step 1: Prep nails with a base coat like Essie First Base. Once your base has dried, paint nails with two coats of Nicole by OPI Hit The Lights. This polish is a perfect, punchy yellow for the bee stripes.
Step 2: Using nail art tape or thin strips of Scotch Tape, stick tape pieces onto nails to create a stripe pattern.
Step 3: Take your black nail polish (we use CND Blackjack) and paint on top of your tape strips.
Step 4: Remove the tape, pulling in one direction for smooth and even lines. Using nail glue or a thick top coat (Seche Vite is a great pick), place your bumblebee nail jewelry on your nail of choice.
Step 5: Seal the design with a top coat. (Tip: To reuse the nail jewelry, simply soak charm in hot water and gently remove using an orange stick. Avoid pulling off with acetone as it can wear down the gold plating.)
