Just because Janet Jackson is the youngest sibling of the Jackson clan, doesn't mean she isn't a force to be reckoned with.
Her life began to change when she appeared on the variety television series "The Jacksons." She quickly went on to start her own musical career, inspiring young women around the world with her unshakeable determination and killer ensembles. (The star could rock shoulder pads and baseball caps like no one else).
22 years ago today (on Mar. 11), she signed a $40 million dollar three-album deal with Virgin Records (and you thought Michael was the only one bringing home the bacon!). In this 1977 photograph, an 11-year-old Janet looks sweet and innocent. And in true '70s fashion, she's dressed in a floral print shirt and thin gold necklaces. Check out those curly tendrils!
