What, you expected her to wear polyester?
Rihanna may be High Street’s newest designer, but the costumes for her Diamonds world tour are straight-up haute couture.
Givenchy’s head designer Riccardo Tisci released sketches of the outfits the singer will wear in the “first act” of the mega-tour. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today,” Tisci says in a statement. “She is the face of her generation.”
That face will be partially obscured in her first ensemble, a floor length ruffled silk crepe cape with thigh-high leather boots. Under the cape is a three-piece gold-embroidered outfit inspired by Tisci’s fall/winter 2013 menswear collection for Givenchy, including a hand-embroidered parka, leather bra and satin shorts.
And as if you needed further proof that this was designed with Rihanna in mind, all of the hardware is engraved with her nickname, “RIRI,” and Tisci even provided her with custom sunglasses and earrings.
