Last night, the first night of Hanukkah, the imperial sun harmonized with rebellious Uranus via a free-flowing trine to honor the sovereign light of our individuality. It’s a good thing that the week starts with such sweet resonances for our egos, because trouble-making Mars brings the noise on Thursday when he locks horns in opposition to Uranus.
During the turbulence, you may feel inclined to rashly defend your individuality against anything that threatens (or seems to threaten) to extinguish what’s important to you or your sense of self. But there are wiser ways to protect your turf than knee-jerk reactions.
The story of Hanukkah itself tells us how. As Jewish rebels hunkered down to defend their turf some 2,000 years ago, they only had oil to light the menorah for one night. However, with confidence, patience, and miraculous good fortune, the oil lasted eight nights. That’s a good lesson for this week. You don’t have to go all-in to look out for yourself. Rushing and rashness aren’t great allies now. Work your horse stance without drama, holding your energy for the right moment to strike, if you need to at all. Sometimes you only need to show you’re ready to stand your ground. Providence will take care of the rest.
The planetary weather report: Use these guidelines to unlock the stars, not to be locked down by them.
A couple of planetary movements should help grant the wisdom to take a stand without falling on your butt. First, jittery Mercury’s move out of Sagittarius into shrewd and strategic Capricorn on Wednesday will help you pace out your plans and thoughts better. Likewise, Friday’s sagacious Sagittarius new moon will help direct our attentions toward keeping an eye on the big picture for our lives. For instance, there’s no sense chewing it out with a barista over your coffee order when you have a meeting that could change your life in a half-hour. Some fights just aren’t worth it, yet some are. This new moon will help us know which is which.
Read on for your sign’s Sky Code.
Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21)
It might be hard for you to see the difference between encouraging a friend or colleague to action and provoking him or her. Provocation is screaming “Fire!” to get someone out the house, and encouragement is “Let’s go eat. My treat!” How your week turns out depends on whether you rely on provocation or encouragement. With erratic Mercury cooling his heels in levelheaded Capricorn on Wednesday, I’m hoping you’ll go with keeping things cool with close ones. However, if someone needs fire under her butt, you’re the person for the job!
Capricorn (December 22 to January 20)
The standoff between highly capable Mars and nonconformist Uranus could bring you to a standstill about how to move forward without upsetting all your carefully laid plans. Although you deserve kudos for all the care you put into the word career, your progress won’t mean much if you lose focus on the people and principles you care most about. Fight for that focus and don’t be swept along by the momentum of a trajectory that neither reflects where you are now or where you want to go. You can reset and restart without fearing that you’re going to lose too much hard-fought ground.
Aquarius (January 21 to February 18)
Your problem-solving prowess works best now when in service of the hive mind. Trust your intuition and ability to sense what a colleague or friend struggles to articulate. Enjoy how one thought melds with another’s to become something that can only be described as magic. Yes, you are that hooked in. Of course, when you’re that attuned to others, there’s always the risk of becoming tone-deaf to the familiar signal of your own thoughts and needs. When brainy Mercury scales the rugged sign of Capricorn on Wednesday, you can trust that you’ll find the rigor to balance the needs of the collective with your own individuality.
Pisces (February 19 to March 20)
You’re never as powerful, sexy, and formidable as when you don’t really know what you’re doing. The volatile opposition between usurper Mars and spirited Uranus is the kind of shake-up to wake up your intuition and your deeper nooks of knowledge. Friday’s Sagittarius new moon seals the deal for feeling your flow at the job. However, don’t oversell your abilities or long-term ideas. You’ll run into problems when you give extra bluster to knowing what you’re doing when you ain’t got a damn clue. Own that, and you’ll be balling like a bawse.
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
You’re most susceptible to letting rashness get the best of you of all the signs, Aries. The moment you think something isn’t going to happen that should be happening, or all you need to do is speed things along, will be the moment you’ll do too much, so take care not to lose it. Take deep breaths frequently and drink as much of a soothing beverage as possible. (Or drink the heavy stuff in a certified chill zone.) And, remember, you can walk away from someone who’s blowing off too much steam. That sharp Mars and spontaneous Uranus face-off could have your mouth (or something more impactful) snapping folks down quicker than a blink.
Taurus (April 20 to May 21)
You may have a lot of restless energy and feel more pent up than usual. If you don’t have an active exercise regimen, then you can put more of that energy into your boo. If having a boo is on romantic layaway, then put that high energy into clearing away junk in your life … or someone else’s life. It is the holidays, after all, and you can use your verve to make someone’s life roomier if you feel you already have enough cleared space. (But I suspect you got some corner of your apartment that’s storing way too much.)
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
No matter how straightforward the phrase “give and take” is, some people have a very one-sided understanding of that, as in YOU give and THEY take. You might not have thought twice about how generous you’ve been, but it’s time to wake up and smell the larceny. No need for grandstanding or loud accusations — just stop the gravy train at your expense. With your sign’s ruler, Mercury, moving into Capricorn on Wednesday, you’ll have a better chance of figuring out who would be better recipients of all the bits and bytes of wonderfulness that’s yours.
Cancer (June 21 to July 21)
Most likely your sign made up the phrase “Comfort Zone,” so you have a huge stake in staying there under almost any circumstances. However, the heavenly smackdown between incendiary Mars and unpredictable Uranus is going to make it clear that it’s time to get off your duff and make some ish happen. There’s no more evidence that needs to come in, and you don’t have to make big moves to make a move. Don’t worry if you can’t work out all the details. Vocal Mercury’s move into Capricorn suggests that a partner or close friend can help, if you share your thoughts.
Leo (July 22 to August 21)
This Sagittarius new moon puts more fiery arrows of searing truth, clarity, and accomplishment in your bow than you can shoot all at once. So, um, don’t. You’re not as good at multitasking this week as you think you are. There are, of course, many weeks when you are the lady or lord of the jungle, but now you need to rule your roosts with lots of care and precision. Likewise, you might have a lot to say and share, but you need to tap into your wisdom to know who can handle what you share and who can’t.
Virgo (August 22 to September 21)
Now that you feel more comfortable in your skin, you can focus more of your attention on what’s happening between your wallet skins. You’re not usually one to shop impulsively. However, if you have the near irrepressible urge to fork over huge sums of money to get something, then think again. You’re confusing your renewed confidence for a boost in coinage that’s just not there yet. Be patient, because scheming Mercury’s jaunt into money-earning Capricorn on Wednesday will help you convert your new-and-improved swag into loot soon enough.
Libra (September 22 to October 21)
Something to think about: There could be an unconscious dissonance between your words and actions. You may think you are being considerate and encouraging with people, but tiptoeing around people’s lack of scruples, common sense, or even manners isn’t going to help improve matters. If you need permission to yank someone’s collar (figuratively, of course) who’s gone off the rails, you have it. Don’t worry about long explanations about what you’re doing, because the offending party will know exactly why he’s being called on the carpet. He was wondering when and if you’d do it.
Scorpio (October 22 to November 21)
There’s nothing scarier in the workplace than a Scorpio in a bad mood, itching to dress down someone who shows up to the office with too much drama in his or her wake. However, that bad mood, especially at the top of the week, likely comes from an anxiety that’s hard to describe because there might not be anyone or anything to which you can point as the cause. The bottom line is you’re entertaining one too many worst-case scenarios, especially with your job and financial security, than necessary. Don’t get scared. Get smart with a plan.
