Gwyneth Paltrow on Her Famous Pink Oscars Dress: 'Maybe Apple Will Wear It to Prom'

For many, it’s a fashion fantasy to raid Gwyneth Paltrow‘s closet. But for Apple Martin it will soon be a reality. We caught up with Paltrow at the opening of her Goop Market pop-up shop in N.Y.C., and she revealed that she’s been stockpiling clothes for her 11-year-old daughter.

“What’s funny is I’ve been saving my gowns and special things since 12 years before she was born, so I have everything,” Paltrow told PeopleStyle. “I have every Oscar dress.”

And yes, that includes the famous baby pink Ralph Lauren confection Paltrow wore to the 1999 Academy Awards, the year she won Best Actress for Shakespeare in Love.

“Maybe she’ll wear it to prom and do a Pretty in Pink thing and resew it and cut it up,” she shared, before quickly adding, “I don’t know if I’d let her chop that one up.”

Another dress Apple might want to wear to a school dance? The star-print tulle mini her mom wore to the N.Y.C. Goop grand event, featuring an embroidered Phoenix on the bodice, which is part of Goop’s new capsule collection with Valentino.

“We have this idea about the modern woman being a wonder woman — so many of us are working and juggling kids and careers and you know running from a meeting to a market to make dinner to get kids from karate practice. So I like to see all of us in this day and age as modern wonder women,” Paltrow said. “I was really thrilled with the concept we came up with, and obviously this collection is the heightened version of it.”

Paltrow worked closely with Valentino Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli on the luxe line, including pieces ranging from $9,900 star-print tulle mini dress to a $995 crown headband to $1,075 pair of sneakers. And the end result is total rock-n-roll princess.

“My piece of it was kind of in the inception of the collection and talking through the concept as a whole and then really letting Maria and Pierpaolo actually put all the fine points on it and really realize their vision of what it is,” Paltrow shares. “I was very happy with the fact they wanted to do it and that they were making the collaboration so special and meaningful with the Wonder Woman motif.”

Maria Grazia Chiuri shared that she was happy to introduce a different type of collection to the market.

“We know Gwyneth very well, we met her 10 years ago, so when she proposed something together, we found it very exciting,” Chiuri told PEOPLE. “Sometimes fashion needs to be fun and not always serious. I think all the women who love fashion and also play with fashion.”

Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors completed the interior of Goop’s latest pop-up (located in the Time Warner Center’s Columbus Circle Shops) in less than six weeks! The decorators are also responsible for the decor at Paltrow’s N.Y.C. penthouse.

And Paltrow was really involved in the store’s decor.

“We really have fun together,” Standefer said. “She loves all the objects and she loves the planning and she gives us a lot of latitude. We share a lot of common ground in our philosophy of design. And that allows us to be free and create.”

The design duo described Gwyneth’s overall aesthetic as “airy, bright and earthy-but-refined.”

For her part, Paltrow said she would live in the chic pop-up (which includes a full kitchen!) if she could.

“I keep saying can’t I just get a blow up mattress and just move in,” she shared. “I think aesthetically it’s kind of the dream and I love being in there. It’s just so beautiful.”
