Here's How You Should Wear Your Makeup on Thanksgiving (and for the Rest of the Weekend)

Heading home for Turkey Day? Before you finalize your packing list (don’t forget these travel-size cuties!), let’s do some beauty planning for the long holiday weekend.

Below, we’ve handpicked six gorgeous celeb-worn looks to inspire you to step out of your beauty comfort zone this Thanksgiving — from dinner with your family to Saturday brunch with your hometown BFFs.

For a day spent with your parents, grandparents and cousins you didn’t even know you had, we recommend keeping your makeup a combination of seasonal and streamlined. This means no smoky eye and bold lips — just pick one feature to play up and run with it!

So if you’re in the mood for a playful pout, like Alexa Chung’s deep red lip, swipe on a matte formula (we like Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Red Carpet Red) to create that textured, stain-like effect. To complete the look, coat your lashes in your favorite volumizing mascara on the top and bottom to create fluttering, feather-like lashes.

But if you’re worried about smearing your lipstick thanks to one-too-many helpings of mashed potatoes, fear not, we’ve got a non-messy makeup solution for you: an exaggerated cat eye. Take a cue from Sarah Hyland, who demonstrates exactly how to play up her biggest feature (those doe-like eyes), and start perfecting your own version of her winged-out liner look. After following our tutorial, grab your favorite liquid liner (like Kevyn Aucion’s The Precision Liquid Liner) and get to flicking!

Jennifer Lawrence, Amber Heard Thanksgiving beautyDan Jackman/Wenn; Dee Cercone/Everett

After awakening from your food coma and hitting all of the Black Friday sales you can handle in a lifetime (seriously, they just get crazier and crazier!), call up your high school friends because it’s time for some cocktails. And what better way to celebrate a pseudo reunion than with some sultry makeup!

A bold lip and eye combo can be risky, but Jennifer Lawrence makes the case for the heavy makeup combo, proving you, too, can easily rock the statement look during a night out with your closest hometown pals. Simply swipe on a deep berry matte lipstick (we like Dior Rouge Dior Couture Color Lipstick in Continental) and then blot to create that dried-down, uneven texture. And as for the eyes, apply a shimmery gray shadow (L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Dual Effects in Incredible Gray) to the corners of the lids and then smudge it out to create the star’s sultry smoky look.

But if you really want a smoky eye, look no further than Amber Heard, who went full-on rocker in a look celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis calls “modern, chic and sexy.” The makeup pro created the “rock ‘n’ roll smoky eye” by first defining the eye with Make Up For Ever Kohl Pencil in Black and then coated the lid with Chantecaille Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo in Monte Carlo. Inglessis finished the smoky eye with two coats of Orlane Mascara Soin Volume and a swipe of lip balm. But if you’re feeling adventurous, go for a slightly deeper-than-nude lip hue!

And on Saturday, take a beauty break! Before heading off to brunch with your boo (or a few of your BFFs), get makeup inspo from these fresh-faced looks seen on Diane Kruger and Gigi Hadid, both of whom opt for minimal makeup for a night out.

If you’re looking to add a pop of color to your look, follow in Kruger’s footsteps and opt for bare lids and a bold lip. Replicate her poppy pink stain with a swipe of Pixi Mattelustre Lipstick in Raspberry Blush, and then open up your eyes by amping up your lashes with a few coats of mascara (we like this one from NYC Color). Pull your hair back into every fashion girl’s favorite half-up topknot and then you’re ready to sip Bloody Marys all morning long.

But if you’re looking for something with a little less color, try Hadid’s barely there makeup look — it only requires three hero products: illuminizer, mascara and nude lip gloss! (And in case you need a quick highlighting tutorial, we’ve got you covered.)

So there it is — your weekend of beauty mapped out. Now, get packing!
