Martin wanted to have a song called “Drinks on Me” but his bandmates insisted it was a horrible lyric. So they changed the words to “drink from me,” called the song “Hymn for the Weekend” and asked Beyoncé to sing on it.
Blue Ivy also made a vocal contribution to the album. She sings in a background chorus of children that also features Martin’s two kids with Gwyneth Paltrow. Speaking of Paltrow, she’s on the album too! “This is The Wall Street Journal, so I don’t want to get too hippie, but what I’m trying to learn in my life is the value of every human,” Martin said, sounding deep.
