Olivia Kim is now Nordstrom's director of creative projects, known for her themed pop-ups like SPACE (which was devoted to emerging designers) and French Fling (featuring an array of Gallic products from APC to Saint James). But Kim is also an Opening Ceremony vet, and clearly still has warm feelings toward the store. Kim worked with former bosses Humberto Leon and Carol Lim on her latest project, Opening Ceremony's Pop-In @ Nordstrom, which will take place at both Nordstrom locations and OC's L.A. outpost on La Cienega Boulevard. The venture opens today and will run through January 3: Expect pieces from Opening Ceremony's resort 2016 collection as well as needlepoint baseball caps (a collaboration with Harding Lane), embellished Minnetonka slippers, and Alpha Industries reversible bombers.
The designers also selected some of their favorite gift items: Venessa Arizaga's charm jewelry, a banana-embellished pot by Isaac Nichols, and bodysuits by Alexandra Alvarez's line Alix. On November 25, the store will become even more gift-centric for the holidays, incorporating items like hoverboards, mini-drones, Steiff stuffed animals, and refurbished Polaroid cameras from the Impossible Project.
The space was designed by artist Max Lamb, who is known for his unique furniture designs. Below, an advance look at what to expect from the Pop-In.
