For December 2015, British Vogue has gotten a proper sparkly green holiday makeover with Karlie Kloss front and center. Karlie's no stranger to appearing on editions of Vogue, American or international. This time, though, she actually did a long interview for a special editorial piece. It makes sense, because Karlie is a model with opinions and inspiration to share.
She's an activist and a college student who has made no secret of her commitment to philanthropy with her Karlie's Kookies initiative or her passion for technology, demonstrated through the launch of her Klossy YouTube channel. It turns out, a life in fashion was never even her goal. "I didn't grow up wanting to be a model," Karlie said. "I didn't think about fashion at all. That was all I wanted to be, a dancer. But, I just kept growing up and up and up! I lived in tights and a bun."
Now, Karlie's thinking two steps ahead. "About two years ago I started to think about what happens to me next," she said. "I'm a 23-year-old model and I want to think less about my looks and more about my future, and that involves my brain. I want to run companies, have a business future." And not just any company. Karlie's into technology, and she has become a passionate advocate for teaching young people, especially women, about coding.
"Call me a nerd," she added. "But I love coding, the language of computers. Understanding coding is a superpower. I met some tech entrepreneurs and they are billionaires through learning this stuff. I'm so competitive with myself and I am fascinated by the language of technology so I decided to be part of the conversation . . . I think it's sexy to learn this stuff; it enables and it empowers both sexes." Catch Karlie's full interview in British Vogue when the issue goes on sale Thursday, Nov. 5.
