We love Fashion Week, but after a week of jostling, waiting in line, trudging through Nemo slush (in suede heels!) and running out of cell phone batteries, we’re ready to concede that it’s not as glamorous as it looks. That’s why we adore Rachel Roy for bringing the fashion show to us — as she has done with her video runway, which we can share with you now.
“Being able to share the show with people who love fashion is important to me,” Roy tells PEOPLE. “Not everyone is able to experience Fashion Week –- I wasn’t able to when I was growing up -– and my goal is to always create experiences that people can be a part of.” For that reason, she’s sharing her fall 2013 collection via video on Facebook, and giving us the inside scoop.
“My goal when I design is to make you feel smart, effortless and sexy,” she says (we can get behind that!). “The inspiration for this collection is ‘refined opulence’ based on 18th century art … jewel tones [like] chambord and hunter green are foundation colors and the embellishment makes it feel rich.”
To complement the luxuriously moody, textured collection, Roy tapped Butter London “Global Colour Ambassador” Katie Hughes to create a reverse French mani using the line’s oxblood “La Moss” nail lacquer under taupe “Tea With the Queen.” Hairstylist Ted Gibson “loved the idea of showcasing the textures in the collection,” Roy says, so he created undone waves for the models. Finally, Bobbi Brown polished off the looks with a “panda eye” using coppery shadow and brown liner.
As to who she sees wearing these designs? “It’s all about smart, forward-thinking women,” she says. “There are pieces for everyone in the collection. Strong jackets … dresses that go effortlessly from day to evening, and knits that can be worn with absolutely everything!”
Tell us: Did you love watching Roy’s whole show online? Which piece was your favorite?
