Nestled a stone's throw away from the Plaza Athenée Hotel is the bright, airy town house where the Row presented its fall 2013 collection. Guests were assembled in various drawing rooms, each one brightly lit and adorned simply with a few oriental rugs, wood furniture, and massive bouquets of cherry blossoms. The models — descending from the top floor, down the central staircase, and through each room in ruffled silk boudoir slippers — seemed right at home. It was a gracious and simple setting for the avant-garde (but no less wearable) collection. When so many New York designers work within the formula of pretty, curve-hugging looks for a body-conscious customer, it was refreshing to see the Row's un-self-conscious tailoring: stiffly draped long skirts and voluminous slouchy sweaters.
