Halle Bailey continues to channel her onscreen persona. At the world premiere of "The Little Mermaid" on May 8 in Los Angeles, the singer and actor celebrated the mythical character in a stunning sculptural gown. Shimmering from every angle, the molten, teal-colored number came with a plunging neckline created by a bust resembling mermaid shells. The showstopping creation was custom made by designer Valdrin Sahiti, who emphatically committed to the under-the-sea theme of the upcoming film, releasing in theaters on May 26.
Keeping the attention on her dress, Bailey accessorized minimally with large diamond statement earrings and an assortment of rings. She finished the look with matching metallic eyeshadow, her long red hair styled past her hips, and turquoise nail art. Following the red carpet, she changed into another mermaid-inspired look for the screening inside the Dolby Theatre, stunning in a sheer teal dress covered in sequins. Bailey was joined by her sister Chloë, who wore an electrifying yellow Gert-Johan Coetzee gown; Jodi Benson, the voice behind Ariel in the original "The Little Mermaid;" and fellow cast members at the premiere.
This isn't the first time Bailey has sartorially paid tribute to Ariel. At the Oscars in March, she wore a sheer, aqua-colored ballgown that her stylist described as a "soft launch" for what was to come in the movie's press tour. Covering Variety's 2022 Power of Young Hollywood issue back in August 2022, Bailey also donned an Ariel-inspired bra-and-skirt set by Joanna Prazmo, made of green multimedia that looked like algae.
