While the 2023 Met Gala red carpet saw a slip of leg and unexpected cutout here or there, the after party is the time for stars to debut sultrier styles. Many celebrities work with the same fashion house they chose for the ball, opting for only minor tweaks on their initial outfit (think: spliced hemlines or a co-ord set in a similar material).
Some of the most notable after party changes include Kendall Jenner, who traded her Marc Jacobs bodysuit for a sultry Nensi Dojaka playsuit covered in sequins, with an exposed thong decal; Kylie Jenner, who swapped her colorblock coordinates for a plunging, structural gown; and Janelle Monáe, who essentially just partied the night away in a glittering black bikini.
Last year, some of the most notable after party changes included Hailey Bieber, who swapped her white satin Saint Laurent halter gown for a barely-there crystal bralette from the French brand, which she teamed with leather hot pants, a tuxedo jacket, and scarlet heels with delicate buckles. Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner paid homage to both of Miuccia Prada's lines throughout the evening, starting off in a sheer Prada ballgown that was complemented by bleached eyebrows, and ending at Zero Bond in a Miu Miu lingerie skirt set that also featured sheer elements. This was a prime example of how the outfit turnover can work hand-in-hand, telling a story from start to finish.
With the Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty theme influencing the night, we also saw some Chanel muses depart from a look that referenced the label's DNA to an ensemble inspired by Lagerfeld's own wardrobe through the use of finger-less gloves, dark sunglasses, and tailored trousers. (Here's looking at you, Cara Delevingne.) These accoutrements all made for an aesthetic that felt edgier and more modern, after all, as everyone schmoozed at NYC hot spots into the wee hours of the morning.
