Miley Cyrus rang in 2023 with her second annual New Year's Eve special, turning out looks and vocals alike. As usual, she collaborated with stylist Bradley Kenneth to curate her many sparkly outfits, which included vintage Versace dresses and a particularly special archival Bob Mackie number. While the musician's outfits during her 2022 special consisted of catsuits and lots of feathers, this time around, Cyrus showcased sequins, cutouts, and one-shoulder silhouettes for her show-stopping performances.
The "Plastic Hearts" singer kicked off the night with cohost and godmother Dolly Parton, singing Joan Jett & the Blackhearts's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" in a custom Gucci dress with multiple cutouts and a visible thong detail. Her leopard-patterned opera gloves matched Parton's printed catsuit that featured massive leg cutouts and spike embellishments.
Throughout the evening, Cyrus, who teased her new single, "Flowers," also wore a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted dress decorated with silk and silver iridescent beads and a fringe trim. Pulled from costume designer Mackie's remarkable archive, the piece is from his fall 2002 "To Broadway With Love" capsule. Alongside Paris Hilton and Sia for a surprise performance of "Stars Are Blind," Cyrus dressed in one of a few Versace pieces during the special: a pink halter dress from the designer's spring/summer 2005 collection, complementing Hilton's crystal minidress by Laurel DeWitt.
Her eye-catching New Year's Eve looks are consistent with Cyrus's Y2K-inspired, rock-star style as of late, which includes a lingerie slip dress by John Galliano and a vintage Alexander McQueen dress made of 100 percent silk.
