Fourteen years later, Emily Blunt is still cringing over the outfit she wore on her first date with John Krasinski. During a Dec. 14 appearance on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," the "Jungle Cruise" actor answered a series of rapid-fire questions, one of which led to a discussion of her "terrible" date-night wardrobe back in the day. When Colbert asked, "What's the one thing you own that you should really throw out?" Blunt hesitated at first before finally describing the "old royal blue velvet jacket" she chose for the first of many outings with her now-husband in 2008.
Blunt reiterated that the outerwear is solely in her closet nowadays for sentimental reasons, but hammered home just how unstylish it really is. "It's such an awful jacket. It sits there and I go, 'That is a terrible jacket,'" she added. Apparently Krasinski wasn't a fan of it either. "He just sent me a memo going, 'Don't wear the jacket and you'll get another date,'" Blunt joked. Apparently she heeded his advice, because the couple went on to tie the knot two years later and now share two daughters, Hazel and Violet.
Blunt's personal style has certainly transcended that moment. Through the years, she's dazzled the red carpet countless times with nary a velvet jacket in sight, wearing classy naked dresses and even twinning in tuxedos with Krasinski. While promoting her new miniseries, "The English," the star has stepped out in plenty of on-trend looks, from a shimmery orange Prada gown to a ribbed yellow dress and thigh-high boots. Plus, how chic is the embellished Vivienne Westwood suit she wore for her "Late Show" interview? Emily Charlton from "The Devil Wears Prada" would definitely approve.
