When Dawn Williams of Alberta, Canada first appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2010, she had a rather unforgettable look: bleach-blonde hair extensions, a low-cut top showing off her breast implants, a large sparkling nose ring, thick layers of makeup, eyelash extensions and her signature hot pink lipstick. In other words, the mother of two was in need of a serious makeunder.
Carson Kressley stepped up to the plate to assess Dawn's sexy, over-the-top look and begin her transformation. At the time, Dawn explained that she had looked the same way for 20 years, but admitted that she was "pretty overdone." The especially difficult part, she added, was that her teenage children weren't happy with her look and just wanted a mom like everyone else's.
Ready to show her children a completely new look, Dawn allowed Carson and his team to work their magic. They removed the hair extensions, gave her a sassy shoulder-length cut, updated her hair color, brightened her face with toned-down makeup and dressed her in a figure-flattering purple wrap dress. The result, as Dawn shows off in the video, was nothing short of dramatic.
But it can be hard to break a 20-year habit. When "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" caught up with Dawn a few years after her makeunder, she revealed how the new look made her feel. "When I was made-under, I kind of went into a little bit of a depression," Dawn says. "But, over time... things started reverting back to the way I was before."
By adding her hair extensions, Dawn says that she had an epiphany. "Once I got those extensions, I was able to get my personality back," she explains. "I'm not saying [the makeunder] wasn't a really beautiful look -- because it was -- but it just wasn't a look that was best suited for me."
In the video, Dawn shares which of her sexy styles she's kept and which she's kissed goodbye, reveals her latest look and also gives an exciting update on her love life. Overall, she says that life is good. "I have to say that I am much happier," Dawn says. "Much happier and I'm more like me."
"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" returns to OWN on Sunday, July 28.
