Sticking to a regular skincare routine isn't easy, especially when there so many new products and tools promising to give you a flawless complexion. However, it isn't so much about smoothing expensive creams on your face, but more about bad skin habits, according to dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler.
In the video above, Dr. Wechsler breaks down the five most common skincare mistakes. Two of these beauty don'ts, not getting enough sleep and overexfoliating, can lead to dryness, wrinkles and even acne. Even worse for your skin, says this professional, is tanning.
"The cosmetic hook is what gets younger people. The skin cancer hook is like, 'Oh, you know what. There will be a cure for that.' It's natural as an adolescent to feel invincible from those things," explained Dr. Wechsler. "But if you don't wear sunscreen and you're in the sun a lot or going to the tanning both, you will look ten years older than your peers who are doing all this stuff."
