Giorgio Armani doesn't seem like one who goes in for psychedelics, but you learn something new every day in the fashion world.
In a new biography about the designer, he apparently drops a hint that he's tried LSD. Naturally, The Telegraph felt the need to clarify the incident, and asked Armani about it during a recent interview. Here's how his giddy reaction played out:
"Si, si!" Armani concurs cheerfully: "I'd better tell you the story. It was a long time ago, we were in the office, and we had finished work exhausted. A friend of a friend said 'hey, take this it will give you energy', so I thought I'd try it. I didn't know what it was. It made me laugh and laugh, like crazy... to the point that my back hurt" -- he holds his hips -- "like I'd just had a baby."
Riiiiiight. Is it just us or does Armani sound more like Hunter S. Thompson than the head of a glitzy Italian fashion house? Of course, his willingness to chat about drug use isn't uncommon in the industry. Marc Jacobs has talked at length about his addiction ("I was never a fat heroin addict -- I was a skinny heroin addict."), and Calvin Klein has also opened up about his struggles.
And hey, Kate Moss proved that these things can be pretty lucrative. What do you think of Armani's LSD anecdote?
Don't designers say the darndest things?
