Karen Fairchild, one-fourth of country quartet Little Big Town, may be an award-winning singer, but chat with her for five minutes and you’ll find out that she’s got another big love: fashion.
Don’t expect to see the singer with “big country hair” and Loretta Lynn-inspired shoulder pads, though. “I think country music fashion is an everyday girl’s fashion,” she tells PEOPLE, noting she loves it for “the ability to thrown on a vintage piece with a dress from Target.”
She’ll be the first to tell you her style is “a little downtown, a little hippie,” adding, “I like to mix vintage with modern.” And that’s exactly what you’ll find if you peek into her closet: Gucci and Alexander McQueen as well as vintage deals she’s happy to brag about. “I love the cowboy boots I had on at the CMT Awards — it was a $40 find in Austin, Texas at a vintage store”.

At a recent performance the singer “wanted something inspired by Stevie Nicks,” which explains the fabulous fringe jacket she wore to perform at Wednesday’s awards show.
And though her inspiration is varied, she resists being too literal. When picking outfits for shows, she explains, “it’s about it feeling like I’m not wearing somebody else’s clothes. I want them to feel lived in.”
Fairchild and Little Big Town are hitting the road this summer with Keith Urban and you can bet she’ll be bringing sporting her tried and true look. “It’ll be the summer of denim shorts and dresses. And you can never go wrong with cowboy boots!” Not a bad motto to follow!
