When you think of royals, the usual suspects come to mind: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Queen Máxima. But there are tons of other nobles who don't recieve as much recognition, but who are equally worthy of our attention. Take Princess Elisabeth of Denmark, for example. The daughter of Prince Knud and Princess Caroline-Mathilde has achieved many accomplishments that make her special: She spent years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, travelled around the world and speaks four languages (and that's no small feat).
In celebration of her 78th birthday (on May 8), we are taking a look back at an old portrait of the princess and her family. In this 1940's snapshot we see King Christian X and his wife, Queen Alexandrine, surrounded by their grandchildren. Elisabeth is seen standing behind the Queen, looking adorable. It seems as though Peter Pan collars and matching ensembles were de rigueur back then -- though many royal families continue to do the matchy-matchy thing to this day.
