Selena Gomez is sorry she’s not sorry about the bindi. She discussed her Indian-themed “Come and Get It” performance at the MTV Movie Awards — which drew criticism from the Universal Society of Hinduism — with Z100’s Elvis Duran yesterday.
“The song kind of has that almost Hindu feel, that tribal feel. I kind of wanted to translate that,” she said. “Plus, I’ve been learning a lot about my seven chakras and bindis and stuff. I’ve learned a lot about the culture, and I think it’s beautiful. I think it’s fun to incorporate that into the performance."
Duran replied that he hates people who buy Buddha statues for their houses “just to be cool.”
“You should know what Buddha was about,” he said, recommending Buddhism for Dummies to Gomez.
“I do not have a Buddha in my house,” Gomez said. She went on: "I think it’s good to educate yourself. If you’re fully aware of it, you should have the freedom to enjoy it.”
Then she exercised that freedom on Letterman.
