Anna Wintour Says No To Naked Vivienne Westwood

With Anna Wintour presiding over every detail, the Met Gala is always a classy affair. So it struck us as odd that this year's gala was said to include a forty-foot-long, Styrofoam statue of Vivienne Westwood in the nude.

Turns out it struck Wintour as strange, too. The Mail on Sunday reports that Vogue's editor-in-chief has axed the proposed Westwood statue, eliminating an interactive element of the Met's upcoming "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" exhibit. The Westwood statue was designed so that museum visitors (and gala-goers) could project graffiti onto it via the Internet and their phones.

But in the March 25, 2013, issue of the New Yorker, Met curator Andrew Bolton said that they might have to lose the statue as it would take up too much space and be a "needless distraction."

It could just be that Anna doesn't care for nude statues (or such an unrefined material as Styrofoam). It could also mean she's got beef with Westwood. A source told the Mail on Sunday, "There’s never been any word of a public feud between Anna and Vivienne, but it's quite clear that Anna doesn’t care for her." Now that we think about it, the two would make a strange pair, what with Anna's prim cardigans and Westwood's... everything else.

But Wintour can clearly tolerate enough punk to make up a whole museum exhibit. What other boundary-pushing elements of the exhibition has Wintour kept intact? We'll have to wait until May 9 when "PUNK: Chaos to Couture" is unveiled to find out.

A sneak peek!
