Since its launch in March 2012, Vogue Netherlands was a controversy-free edition of the magazine. As Fashionista points out, it had a "particularly bad track record with using non-white models" but boasted a great track record of not painting white models' faces black, until now. In "Heritage Heroes," a spread from the mag's May issue, Dutch model Querelle Jansen (no points lost for patriotism) poses in a variety of Marc Jacobs's past looks for Louis Vuitton. And in the image representing the designer's spring 2009 line — above the caption, "this collection is inspired by the style of the Parisian showgirl Josephine Baker, mixed with tribal influences" — is Jansen in blackface and probably a wig. No need for a Cut Lecture; tone-deaf editorials are a rite of passage at Vogue.
