As preparation for his first Balenciaga collection, Alexander Wang made a point to delve into the storied house's archives. This time, for resort, he drew again from that history. His starting point was Getaria, the Spanish town where Cristóbal Balenciaga hailed from and also the location of the designer's namesake museum. With that, the collection continued the stark black and white palette from spring with squiggles taking the place of the cracked marble prints, while raffia hats and sandals, along with coiled metal jewelry, provided finishing touches. Zoom in on one white dress covered with undulating lines to get a better view of the pattern.
Over at Derek Lam, North Africa and Art Deco were the starting points of a collection filled with easy-to-wear separates in a minimal palette of grays, nudes, black, and white. Leather, knits, and lightweight wools offered up the perfect transitional weather wardrobe. One particular series of guipure-lace dresses nodded toward the Art Deco reference, especially one gleaming gold diamond cutout skirt reminiscent of the Chrysler Building.
Nina Ricci stayed true to its feminine roots with pastel-hued eyelet pieces, delicate chiffon pleating, and several pretty floral prints. One showstopping red-carpet-worthy gown was covered in yellow blossoms, looking like the personification of a perfect spring daffodil.
