When we arrive to the set of Chrissy Teigen’s new fall campaign for XOXO, she’s talking about kale and walking around in a robe and heels. (To be fair, it’s lunchtime and she has a cookbook coming out next year.) “I hate wearing anything over my shoulders,” she says. “So usually I just do a towel. That’s why Brooklyn Decker and Erin Andrews call me Terry—after Terry Terrycloth, because I’m always in a towel.”

To any one of her 3.1 million Instagram followers, this probably comes as no huge surprise. We’re talking about the girl who’s posed naked countless times — she’s even shared pics of her husband John Legend’s bare butt! But her affinity to show a little skin comes from a very real place.
“I was told in my early modeling days that I didn’t have a neck,” she reveals. “So, I’m always very aware of wanting my neck to look very long. And when things are on your shoulders, it covers your neck a bit. It’s a deep story.”
Luckily, her early days of living in a crowded model house in Miami are over, and now she’s back in N.Y.C. (one of her two current homes — the other is L.A.) to serve as the face of XOXO for another season.

“The silhouette on everything is very beautiful. And the accessories are really wonderful,” she says of the brand’s fall assortment. “I love things that are easy to layer, and the collection has a lot of layerable pieces.”
The trick, she says, to still cutting a figure when you’re stacking multiple pieces on, is to be mindful of what fabrics you’re mixing. “I love wearing very silky layers underneath a leather jacket — especially a silk duster underneath a cropped leather jacket. When you walk, they flow behind you like a little cape.”

And while we were half-hoping her hubby would pop by in between shots (he’s been known to make surprise appearances on the sets of her shoots), the singer’s presence was certainly felt on the set.
See that little gold statue sitting on Teigen’s makeup desk, it’s exactly what it looks like: Legend’s Oscar for Best Original Song, which he, along with Common, won for Selma‘s “Glory” earlier this year.

“It’s been sitting here all alone in New York, because we don’t really come out here anymore,” Teigen says of the surprising accessory, which she brought along so she could give it back to Legend later that night. “I had a carry-on here and was like, ‘I’ll just carry it on the plane and bring it back to L.A.’ But then someone said it might be a blunt objection, so I’ll see if I get through TSA.”
She continues: “I’d love to see them throw that into that shaving cream bin though. You know it’s going to be the perfect silhouette in the X-Ray. It’s going to be so obvious!” [Editor’s note: We didn’t see any headlines on “John Legend’s Oscar Confiscated by the TSA,” so we’re assuming it made its way home safely.]

And as for the model’s latest shopping obsession, we bet you can probably relate: “I splurge the most on purses,” she says. “I like things you can wear all the time. I’m not one for statement bags because they tend to be so specific. Sometimes they can make any outfit cooler, but I’m not that stylish where I would know what to put with it. So I love my bags that go with everything—and I love really oversized ones too. I have so much stuff with me all the time. My laptop is always with me, my makeup bag, all my skin products, everything.”
