What We're Buying: Plenty of Pink To Support Breast Cancer Awareness

We love pink all year round, but never more so than in October, when it represents one of our favorite causes, Breast Cancer Awareness. Four PEOPLE StyleWatch editors (and one very famous face of a campaign that supports the cause) pick the products that they’ll be adding to their closets this month. And best of all, each item below donates at least half of all their proceeds to worthy causes dedicated to eradicating this devastating disease. Check out our products below, then tell us how you’ll be supporting the cause this month.

Loft BCA necklaceCourtesy Loft

Brittany Talarico, Associate Editor: Breast Cancer Awareness has always been a cause close to my heart. Both my grandma and aunt are survivors, and two years ago my best friend and I joined an incredible group of women (shout to Team Ocean in Motion!) for the Avon walk in N.Y.C. It was one of the most empowering experiences of my life.

To help give back this year, I’m going to start by purchasing this amazing statement necklace from LOFT’s new “Live In Pink” campaign. Survivor Giuliana Rancic has been named global ambassador for the new collection, designed exclusively for the retailer by Suzanna Dai. The best part: 60% of all purchases will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That means more than $40 from my purchase alone (the necklace retails for $69.50) will go to help finding a cure.

Aerie BCA bra Courtesy Aerie

Alex Apatoff, Contributor: Breast Cancer Awareness — and especially early detection — is a cause that’s also extremely important to me. Regular mammograms have saved the life of someone very close to me. But because of my personal experience with the disease, I am wary of “pinkwashing,” and it is important that anything I buy to support BCA actually gives a large portion of proceeds to worthy causes.

Well, you can’t do much better than a 100% donation. Aerie is giving all the proceeds from their limited-edition magenta “Bridget” bra to Bright Pink, which has educational and support programs devoted to young women’s health. And best of all, this isn’t something that will sit in my closet unworn. I’ve long loved Aerie bras for being a great value and super-comfy, so the purchase supports more than just BCA! (Ba-dum-ching!)

Rebecca Taylor BCA topCourtesy Rebecca Taylor

Andrea Lavinthal, Style Director: I was excited to learn that one of my all-time favorite designers had created a top to raise awareness for breast cancer, but I was absolutely thrilled to learn that 50% of the proceeds from Rebecca Taylor’s hot pink peplum blouse (which will be available online) are going directly to the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

The charity was established in honor of a young woman who was diagnosed at age 35 with an aggressive form of the disease and its mission is to be a source of information and support to patients and their families. It’s the best $295 you’ll ever spend on a (very chic) shirt.

Estee Lauder BCA compactCourtesy Estée Lauder

Elizabeth Hurley, Estée Lauder model and spokesperson for their Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: I’ve gone ahead and bought a stash of the Estée Lauder Evelyn Lauder Dream Solid Perfume Compact which I’m saving as Christmas gifts. They’re beautiful and Estée Lauder is donating 100% of the suggested retail price from the sale of this compact to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Chan Luu BCA braceletsCourtesy Chan Luu

Zoë Ruderman, Senior Style Editor: My insanely smart scientist mom (I didn’t get her curly hair or her science smarts — bummer) teamed up with her friend, the founder of Breastcancer.org, Marisa Weiss on a project called Think Pink, Live Green, which offers lifestyle advice to help women reduce their risk, reduce recurrence rates and for those with the disease to make healthy choices.

So, in addition to making a donation to Breastcancer.org this month (you can do it here), I’ll also be getting one of the pretty pink-and-green bracelets that celeb-loved jewelry designer Chan Luu created especially for this cause (50% of the proceeds go to the organization).
