WATCH: Why Some Older Women Refuse To Dress Their Age

Yes, yes, yes: 50 is the new 30, we hear. But does that mean post 50 women should be dressing like their younger counterparts?

It was a question posed by HuffPost Live host Nancy Redd recently: why do some "women of a certain age" refuse to dress their age? To discuss the concept of age-appropriate dressing, Redd spoke with Huff/Post50 associate editor Anthonia Akitunde; fashion and pop culture journalist Elizabeth Saab; and Shari Hershon, a fashion designer in New York City.

"I think we live in a youth-obsessed society," Saab said. The journalist spoke about her own moment confronting the expectations of what is "age-appropriate" when she got a haircut that aged her by 10 or 15 years.

Redd pointed out that older women don't look the same anymore, having foregone "grandma perms" and other dowdy looks.

"The idea of dressing or looking a certain age has gone by the wayside now that more people are turning 50 and feeling like 'I still have some of my best years ahead of me'," Akitunde agreed.

But is there a fine line between dressing "slutty" or "sexy"? And is that line even more difficult to cross when you reach a certain age? See what the panel had to say in the video above.
