Two weeks ago, the Post reported that Megan Salt, Vogue's communications director of three years, would depart the magazine for Amazon Fashion — and that Wintour hoped to replace her with someone "from the political sphere." Today, at the end of WWD's article "Mayor Bloomberg the Suprise Guest at Condé Nast Cocktail Party," the trade makes public Salt's successor: Hildy Kuryk, "a former finance consultant for Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign [who] was last the national finance director of the Democratic National Committee."
In 2011, Kuryk was one of Politico's "50 politicos to watch: Fundraisers." She helped bring in a record-breaking $86 million for the DNC/Obama's reelection campaign during the second fund-raising quarter. Kuryk (about 35 years old, native New Yorker, mom of one) previously worked in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during the Clinton Administration, and for Dick Gephardt, Tom Daschle, and Charlie King.
Robert Wolf, then-UBS chief and Obama bundler, told Politico that Kuryk's "shown, first and foremost, a great passion with respect to [her job] ... She was handling outreach in the most professional fashion." Fashion! Knew it was in there somewhere.
