The MTV Video Music Awards are famous -- or infamous, as the case may be -- for inspiring some of the wildest and most outrageous red carpet fashion ever. Past years have brought such gems as Lady Gaga's raw meat dress, Lil Kim's purple nipple pasty, and Rose McGowan's butt-baring chain mail getup. The 2013 show on Sunday, Aug. 25, didn't feature any frocks made entirely out of food, but there was no shortage of eye-catching ensembles.

Miley Cyrus, for example, hit the red carpet at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in black leggings and a black off-the-shoulder crop top adorned with tons of colorful gems, while Taylor Swift went glam and grown-up in a plunging Herve Leger by Max Azria gown and Marilyn Monroe-esque golden curls. Katy Perry, on the other hand, struck a fun note in an Emanuel Ungaro leopard-print dress with gold embellishments and a thigh-high slit.
