At least eight individuals have been taken to local hospitals after a shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Police have called it an “active situation,” warning people to stay away from the area as they exchange gunfire with the shooter.
Like other clinics that provide abortions, Planned Parenthood locations around the country have long been subject to attacks. Following the July release of video footage purportedly showing Planned Parenthood's director of medical services discussing selling fetus parts, four arsons were committed in a span of seventy-four days.
"At this time, our concern is for the safety of our patients, staff and law enforcement," Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains, said in a written statement. "This is a developing situation, and we'll continue to share updates as we have them."
