PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive is also the Sexiest Hair Chameleon alive. But there was one look his wife Victoria Beckham just couldn’t get behind.
In the latest issue of PEOPLE, Beckham says that while Victoria doesn’t get involved with his style choices, she “wasn’t a fan” of the ponytail he sported on and off in the early aughts.

He adds that he’s able to poke fun at past fashion mistakes with his partner — like their famous leather-on-leather moment in 1999.
“Me and Victoria always laugh about when we went to this Gucci show and we had on matching leather outfits and now we’re like, ‘What were we thinking?!’ We were living at her mum’s house at the time and she was getting changed in her room — we weren’t allowed to stay in the same room — and I was getting changed in my room downstairs,” he explains, adding, “Then we both came to the kitchen and were like ‘Wow.’ It was A LOT of leather. We still have those outfits… Once I bought this suit jacket that was Galliano, so it was obviously very expensive, and it had half a pink bra hanging out of the inside pocket, sewn in. I thought it looked good but Victoria was like,’You are NOT wearing that!'”

For her part, Victoria tells PEOPLE, “David has good taste. I like the way he dresses. He’s naturally very stylish.”
She also spills that her husband has “fantastic abs” and that “all of his tattoos are beautiful.” (She can’t pick a favorite.)
