‘Tis the season for tinsel, twinkle lights, mistletoe, eggnog and enough cookies to undo all of that diligent work you’ve been investing in your New Year’s resolutions all year long. But apparently, this time of year is also ideal for one more thing—changing up your hairstyle. While everyone else will be busy trying to find that perfect dress to ring in the new year, why not try something a little more unexpected like Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rihanna who all opted for daring new hair looks to celebrate the end of 2016?
Perhaps you haven’t heard, but Selena’s hair is kind of a big deal. After all, it’s not just every pop star who gets her own contract with Pantene due to her luscious, almost waist-length locks. So when the singer does decide to switch up her beauty look, it’s pretty major news. And this isn’t just any old chop, Selena cut off what appears to be about a foot of hair, giving herself a very on-trend lob that just grazes her shoulders.
Ashley Benson also went for something drastic to welcome 2017, ditching her signature blonde locks for something very daring, a head full of pastel pink hair. The actress celebrated her 27th birthday by letting her friend and photographer Nico Guilis dye her hair a vibrant shade of rose, adding some lacy cat ears just for good measure.

But the Pretty Little Liars star wasn’t the only one who got a fresh dye job to kick off her big day, Hailey Baldwin also joined in on the action.
While Hailey’s hair color has been all over the map this past year, from white blonde to bronde and everywhere in between (with a short pit stop in a similar shade of pastel to Ashley’s), this is the first time in 2016 the aspiring super has gone full-on brunette. Though she kept her newly dyed strands all covered up at Benson’s birthday party, two days earlier the model showed off her dark new do at a Kendrick Lamar concert.
Rihanna also decided to go with a polar opposite hair color to finish off the year. After endlessly changing up her style throughout 2016, including forays into butt-grazing Cher hair and faux dreadlocks, the singer opted for something a little lighter for the holidays, debuting a slightly wavy, warm blonde lob paired with an ensemble in fully coordinated shades of taupe, naturally.
