Your wish has just been granted, StyleWatchers! Sarah Jessica Parker is about to step into some new – and very fashionable – shoes as she is now the designer of her own label (pause for tears of joy).
Alas, we have to wait until 2014 for the collection, which will include footwear, handbags and trench coats, to become available exclusively at Nordstrom. Luckily, SJP dished on her design plans.
In a nod to her trend-obsessed Sex in the City alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw, Parker plans to create some innovative styles for her brand. For the shoes (rumored to range from $200s to the mid-$300s), Parker wants to experiment with interesting color combinations like mocha and navy.
“This idea that black and brown are the only neutrals is done,” Parker told Footwear News, “that’s so liberating for the shoe business.”
Parker, who’s launching the label with Manolo Blahnik president George Malkemus, explained why she chose to put on her design hat again, after her Bitten line for Steve & Barry’s folded in 2009 and she left her position at Halston Heritage in 2011.
“There were many years where opportunities existed [but], the timing wasn’t right,” she said. “In the more recent past, the conversation erupted again, and I took it more seriously.”
And we are sure glad she did. The shoes, said to include a variety of heel heights, will strive for comfort, perhaps due to her recent comments on how high heels have wrecked her feet.
“When it gets really, really high and your achilles is shoved back into your calf as far as it can go, that’s when I see that ‘shuffle’ happen in women,” Parker said. “Part of me feels responsible for it because [those heels] were a big part of our storytelling on the show.”
Finally of her collection, Parker added, “I really hope people like it.” Safe to say we will, SJP!
