On the surface, it may not seem like Taylor Swift and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi have a ton in common. Sure, they both became famous with a little help from MTV, and both are prolific Instagrammers, but we wouldn’t say there’s a ton of style overlap between the two.
So we were more than a little surprised to see both stars hitting the beach in very similar swimsuits. They each chose a pinup-style high-waisted bikini with striped halter tops. Swift’s Topshop number had matching briefs and a ruched bikini top, while Polizzi’s had black bottoms and a top that tied in the center.

The retro style is coming back into favor with ladies because it’s flattering (that tummy-tucking front panel covers a multitude of guacamole-related sins) — and both Swift and Polizzi show that it works on a range of body types, from tall and slender to petite and curvy.
But proceed with caution: This is not a style most guys appreciate (in an informal poll, five out of five men surveyed said “Ugh, horrible”), so maybe save this one for a girls’ beach trip and not, say, your honeymoon. But if you are going to try it, whose style would you emulate: Swift’s or Snooki’s?
