Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Shoulder Pads, Berry-Colored Lips and Allover Animal Print

In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we noticed stars in shoulder pads (yes, as in 1985 shoulder pads), and a whole lotta berry-painted pouts. Plus, we spotted one celeb whose animal-print game missed the mark. Consider this your fashion forecast.

Up: Shoulder Pads. You already know ’90s-inspired styles are back in a big way. Turns out, the ’80s are creepin’ back into Hollywood closets too. At first we thought it was just a fluke when Julianne Hough stepped out in her Moschino dress with its structured shoulders, double-breasted style and two-tone lapels at this week’s Paradise premiere. Then Heidi Klum came out shoulders blazin’ in an asymmetrical black-and-white Thomas Wylde blazer and fitted trousers. And we expect to see a whole lot more of the trend as fall hits.

Up: Berry-Colored Lips. It was a dramatic week for lip color as well. Various shades of deep red took center stage on the carpet. Amanda Seyfried led the pack with a rich hue that made her white Stella McCartney separates pop at the Lovelace Las Vegas premiere. Following in her footsteps, Kerry Washington matched her lip shade to the print on her Giambattista Valli mini, and Lily Collins added even more drama to her citron sheath via a deep cherry hue. Plus, Michelle Dockery (who had a bit of the structured, lady power suit going on à la Julianne and Heidi) and Sarah Hyland also amped up solid colors with their lips.

Down: Animal-Print Leggings. We love animal print. But Adrienne Bailon went a bit too far this week wearing loud, cheetah-print leggings with a white bustier top and blazer. (And it looks like 81 percent of you agree with us!) Yes, the trend is going to be big for fall, but for right now stars are slowly incorporating leopard and other spotted patterns into their wardrobes via accessories (See: Michelle Williams’s pumps).
