Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Crazy Pants, Jumpsuits (Yes, More!) and Draped Dresses

Trend report crazy pants, jumpsuits, draped dressesDominique Charriau/WireImage; PJB/SIPA; Dominique

After you check out the weather report for this weekend, it’s time to get clued in on the fashion forecast. In our weekly round-up of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we noticed a whole bunch of bold bottoms, stars continuing their love affair with jumpsuits — and the decline of overly-draped dresses.

Up: Crazy Pants. Classic trousers? Skinny jeans? Not this week in Hollywood. Stars were on mission to out-pants each other in a number of bold styles. Like Jennifer Lawrence’s asymmetrical Christian Dior stunners and Kristen Stewart’s sheer, embellished Zuhair Murad bottoms. Also proving that pants are having a major moment on the red carpet — Rita Ora in her cropped, flared Topshop trousers, which have a total throwback vibe.

Up: Jumpsuits. Onesies continue to grow in popularity with no signs of slowing down. More and more stars are hopping on the jumpsuit bandwagon and stepping out in sexy versions of the trend. Julianne Hough rocked an electric-blue Georges Hobeika number with a sheer neckline, while Lea Michele opted for a plunging black one. Bella Thorne chose one with illusion detailing at the waist, and Selena Gomez made a statement in a leaf-printed Diane von Furstenberg design.

Down: Draped Dresses. This week celebs were all about showing off their shape (ahem…Jessica Lowndes and Petra Nemcova) in figure-flattering dresses. That’s why Rose McGowan’s long, black sheath with drape detailing feels a bit out of place and off-season compared to other summer-friendly star looks (and it looks like 88 percent of you agree with us).
