Nora Zenczak, 30, and Gerard Skerrett, 39, first met in Rwanda during the summer of 2012 while working with the Millennium Villages Project. After two years of international dating, Gerard popped the question during a Christmas trip to her hometown, Cleveland. Two months later, they were married on a snowy Valentine’s Day in New York. Their families flew in from Ohio and Ireland to join them for a nine-person ceremony and dinner in Lafayette’s Salle Privée. “For me, the cold weather and the restaurant’s mahogany interior felt very Irish,” says Gerard. Once they were stuffed and sleepy, everyone headed to the bar at the Sheraton Tribeca for more family time. After living abroad for so long, the couple craved the comfort of a small ceremony. “We wanted it to feel very warm and intimate — really down to earth,” says Nora.
