Diana Ross IS the definition of a diva. As a matter of fact, Merriam-Webster's dictionary should include a photo of Miss Ross right next to the term. (Just a suggestion.)
Born Diana Ernestine Earle Ross in Detroit, Michigan, she rose to fame back in the '60s as lead singer of The Supremes. Her beehive hairdos, baby doll eyelashes and bedazzled costumes accentuated her sweet soprano sound and helped to define the look of Motown.
When Ross broke out of the group as a solo artist and budding actress in films like "Lady Sings the Blues," "Mahogany" and "The Wiz," her personal style grew even more glamorous. We're talking big curls, big furs and big jewels! But don't let her extravagant transformation in the spotlight mislead you. "My life has often been described as 'from rags to riches' but in fact, the Ross's were never raggedy," she was quoted as saying.
In honor of Diana Ross' 69th birthday on Tuesday (Mar. 26), we've rounded up some of her most memorable looks over the years.
