We may not be in Paris taking in the shows, but the nonstop Instagrams, Vines and Tweets from our fashionable colleagues (plus the macarons we ordered for ourselves) have us feeling like we’re front row. And access to social media means we now know instantly what’s a hit or a miss — as well as what we’ll all be wearing this fall. See what we’ve learned about (from left) Saint Laurent, Chanel and Valentino, below.
Saint Laurent’s New Name Isn’t The Only Controversial Thing: After Hedi Slimane rebranded YSL and moved the design headquarters to L.A., people were wary. And when he sent a very ’90s grunge-inspired collection down the Paris runway, people on Twitter were apoplectic. The reaction was so negative that it inspired Buzzfeed to create a quiz to see if you could guess which reviews were for Saint Laurent and which were for Rihanna‘s maligned show.
Chanel’s Good Girls Go Bad: Good news for girls who like to indulge their naughty and nice sides. Karl Lagerfeld sent out lots of cute tweed suits, high-necked swing coats and feminine dresses — and paired them with totally bad-ass thigh high, chain-embellished boots. We’ll definitely be trying this look on a smaller scale.
Everyone Will Be Wearing Valentino: Eight big-name stars wore Valentino to the Oscars, so it’s not like the revered line doesn’t already have plenty of famous fans. But after seeing the social media hysteria over the schoolgirl-collared looks seen Tuesday, we have a feeling that this will be the collection spotted on every star from now until 2014. Smart sheer details, plenty of crisp collars and cuffs and beautiful lace are pretty hard to resist — and easy for the average girl to try in her own wardrobe.
