Oscars Producers Defend Seth MacFarlane

Remember when Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars and people were not enthused? Well, this weekend at the GLAAD awards, the show's producers, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, finally came to MacFarlane's defense. "People have complained for years and years that the Oscars were becoming irrelevant," Meron told The Hollywood Reporter. He continued: "What we did this year is to really make them part of the cultural conversation, and I think that's the important part that people will take away." Zadan added, "He brought in the youngest demos that the Oscars have ever had." But what about the "Boobs Song," the bit that stuck in the most people's craws? Zadan explained further: "It was not about the women that were mentioned, the song was about him being a bad host and him being a juvenile." Meron: "Everyone who complained missed the joke, it was satire." Ahh, the classic "they didn't get the joke" argument — it's a lot easier than the "they didn't get the joke because we did a bad job telling it" argument.
