Opening Ceremony Happy to Ignore That Yoko Ono Lawsuit, Thanks

Opening Ceremony's Humberto Leon and Carol Lim spoke at WWD's menswear summit today, where they were more than happy to talk about the following: (1) how well Kenzo is doing since they took it over; (2) how well Opening Ceremony's own line is selling at stores like Barneys; (3) how much fun they're having with collaborators like Chloë Sevigny, Spike Jonze, and Yoko Ono; and (4) how much fun they're having in general. But missing from their dialogue was one very noticeable subject: the lawsuit filed this week by Brooklyn-based designer Haleh Nematzadeh, who claims Yoko Ono's John Lennon–inspired Opening Ceremony line was actually a ripoff of her own crotch-handprint designs. (Indeed, her photo evidence is pretty convincing.) A rep from Opening Ceremony told the Post earlier this week that “Neither Yoko Ono nor Opening Ceremony comments on pending litigation," so the subject was probably off-limits to WWD. But you know they'll have to address it sooner or later.
