Mere hours after ascending the Met Gala steps in a vintage Chloé "violin dress," Olivia Wilde appeared at the afterparty with a sultry take on the no-pants trend. Taking a cue from celebrities like Ciara and Sydney Sweeney, Wilde arrived at the star-studded soiree on May 1 in a Chloé netted tank dress layered over a black thong. "Party after party after party after party after party . . . " Wilde captioned a photo of herself on Instagram Stories later that evening.
The open-knit silk maxi dress featured a metallic finish that gave the fabric a radiant sparkle as Wilde strutted past the paparazzi lights. Between the hundreds of circular cutouts adorning the garment, she revealed a high-cut black thong in place of the dress's built-in slip. The back of the gown was fastened with a set of exaggerated lace-up ties that added a subtle drama to the delicate ensemble.
Wilde's stylists - Karla Welch, Grace Wrightsell, and Jamie Spradley - paired the barely there gown with Casadei platform boots in black leather and a gold box clutch by Tyler Ellis. Later in the evening, Wilde also wore a pair of white Chanel sunglasses from the designer's spring 1993 collection, a nod to the 2023 Met Gala theme honoring Karl Lagerfeld. Highlighting the dress's subtle shimmer, Wilde's makeup artist Jo Baker and hairstylist Mara Roszak completed the outfit with rhinestone eyeliner and beachy waves.
Before the main event, Wilde posed on the hotel balcony with Maude Apatow, Gabriela Hearst, and Vanessa Kirby. Other standout fashion moments at the exhibit included Doja Cat's homage to Lagerfeld's cat, Choupette; Bad Bunny's cutout suit with a 26-foot train; and Rihanna in a white rosette gown by Valentino, which she styled with Bulgari jewelry.
