Long gone are the days when Octavia Spencer couldn’t find someone to dress her for awards ceremonies. These days, the star relies on Tadashi Shoji, who designed the stunning gown she wore to accept her best supporting actress Oscar last year, and for good reason.
“It’s very difficult to make a woman of different sizes look as chic, as sexy, without making them wear a tent,” Spencer explained at L.A.’s Women in Film pre-Oscar party of her fondness for the designer. “Normally, that’s what they give you. ‘Here is your designer dress, but it’s a tent.’ I’m sorry, I just refuse to do that. It’s not gonna happen, honey! I’m not going to wear a muumuu!”
So what does the presenter plan to wear Sunday night? Even she doesn’t know. “I’m down to two, and it depends on the drape and the whatever, whatever,” she joked. “They’re completely different but I love them both … You will understand that when you see the one that I pick.”
And forget triple Spanx and starving herself: the star is all about having fun this year. “I’m never going to miss a meal!” Spencer said, laughing. “I think it’s about celebrating the journey, and I get to be at the biggest party … on a huge night. Are you kidding? There’s no pressure at all!”
Tell us: Are you excited to see Spencer’s gown tomorrow? Who else are you looking forward to seeing on the red carpet?
