Sorry? Nirvana fans are peeved that Justin Bieber showed up to the 2015 American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 22, wearing a shirt featuring the band’s name.
The “What Do You Mean?” singer, 21, paired the grungy tee with ripped jeans and white sneakers. Fans of the rock group quickly took notice and slammed him via Twitter.
“Does Justin Bieber even know who nirvana is?” one commenter wrote. A second noted: “I feel like if the interviewer asked him what his favorite nirvana song was, he would say smells like teen spirit.”
Nirvana originated in 1987 and most notably included the late Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear. Some of their greatest hits include “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “All Apologies.”
Bieber, meanwhile, is perhaps concentrating more on his performance than the critics. Executive producer Larry Klein recently revealed what fans can expect from his act, which will include songs from his new album Purpose. ”We orchestrated it like it's three separate acts in a Broadway play. He's doing a medley of three songs -- each one a different part of the stage, each one its own environment, its own set, its own look,” he told ABC earlier this week. "I mean, one will have dancers, one won't. One will have a band, one won't. It's really three different looks all flowing together with no stops."
