When model Kylie Bisutti had to choose between being a Victoria's Secret Angel or her faith, the decision was easy.
The 23-year-old Christian, who once walked the Victoria's Secret catwalk, explains in her new memoir I'm No Angel, why she had to quit the notoriously sexy lingerie brand who wasn't too kind on the young model, to focus on her religion.
When Kylie first started out in the modeling business, she was a wide-eyed 15-year-old California girl looking for her big break in New York City. But her dream quickly evaporated after being exposed to the harsh realities of the modeling industry.
"I pretty much restricted my diet to oatmeal, fruits and vegetables to meet runway expectations," Kylie told the New York Post. "I'm 5-foot-10, and I got down to 115 pounds with measurements of 34-24-34. In February 2007, New York Fashion Week was approaching, and while everyone I knew was being sent out to auditions, I wasn't."
Kylie claims that her agent made her feel bad about her weight, and told her "you look like a fat cow right now, Kylie. You need to lose 2 inches off of your hips."
Despite the harsh treatment, Kyle got her big break in 2009 when she beat 10,000 girls in a Victoria's Secret model search.
However, her dream job wasn't quite she expected it to be and didn't feel comfortable posing in underwear.
"I was being paid to strip down and pose provocatively to titillate men,” she said. “It wasn’t about modeling clothes anymore; I felt like a piece of meat.”
Kylie even claims that a photographer tried to kiss her and was constantly being hit on by male models.
Unfortunately, this kind of harassment is fairly common in the modeling world.
Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha recently held an event that revealed the unglamourous side to modeling and had some advice that Kylie would likely agree with.
"Tell your friends and agency when you work with a creepy photographer," said Rocha, "or else he'll do the same to another girl."
Two years after she got her Victoria's Secret gig, Kylie decided she had enough and quit modeling.
The cutie now lives in Montana and volunteers at her local church with her husband Mike.
