Hedi Slimane's muse Sky Ferreira, the singer whose songs you love but whose album you can't seem to find, is the new face (and hair muse) of Redken. The news comes after earlier reports that she and her boyfriend were arrested for drug possession (which was followed by an assertion of her innocence).
In addition to Ferreira, Redken's packaging also has a new face: The entire range is now color-coded by product line for efficiency. The last face attached to Redken was that of the glossy-haired Chiara Ferragni, of the Blonde Salad, who was Redken's Global Fashion Brand Ambassador. Ferreira is a more grungy, surprising choice for the brand, but she looks good: Brand imagery shows her modeling several looks such as straight hair, a dramatic, side-shaved braid, and a Marilyn Monroe—like wavy crop. At an event last night, Ferreira (who will soon be on tour with Miley Cyrus) told the beauty editors assembled that her grandmother, a hairdresser who had a salon in her house (and also styled Michael Jackson's hair), used to chase her around with a brush and a Redken spray bottle. Now it sounds like it'll be Redken's creative consultant Guido Palau doing the chasing.
