Master The Winged Eyeliner Look With This 5-Step Tutorial (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Winged eyeliner is one of the most classic makeup looks in history. Style icons like Cleopatra, Sophia Loren, and Angelina Jolie are all known for adorning their lids with the ultra-feminine flick of liner. These women make getting the winged eye look easy, but if you have extremely shaky hands, it takes plenty of trial and error.

Kari Bauce, HuffPost Live head makeup artist, takes us through five simple steps in the video above to master winged eyeliner. She preps the face by filling in brows and applying an eyeshadow primer (this provides an even base for the liner to go on smoothly and last all day long).

Step 1: Brush on a neutral colored eyeshadow across the entire lid and draw on a darker shadow in the crease. Be sure to remain light-handed, as too much product or color will distract from the liner.

Step 2: Toss the eyeliner pencil and instead grab a gel or cream eyeliner and angled brush. Pencil tends to read harsher against skin, while gel guarantees a smoother finish.

Step 3: You'll want to start at the tail end of your eyes. Hold the brush at a 45-degree angle and sketch out the winged shape to see how far you'd like it to extend. Then go to the inside corner of the eye and draw on your liner until both lines connect. Keep the liner thinner on the inside and thicker on the outside.

Step 4: To clean up any mistakes or to refine your line, use an angled sponge with a little concealer.

Step 5: For extra drama, go over the cream or gel liner with a liquid pen.
