We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.
For a night out celebrating the SAG-AFTRA Foundation with Ralph Lauren and Vanity Fair, Olivia Wilde tapped into her sultry side with a gray-and-black smoky eye. Gorgeous, right? We thought so, too, which is why we’ve got all the scoop on her statement eye moment, courtesy of her go-to makeup artist of seven years, Mélanie Inglessis.

Inglessis decided on the bold eye to complement the actress’s black Ralph Lauren Collection jumpsuit, which, the makeup pro says, has become Wilde’s “signature look.”
“The jumpsuit was simple but chic, and we wanted to make it a little edgy with dark smoky eyes,” Inglessis tells PeopleStyle. “Olivia suits smoky eyes like no one else — we most likely always go for smoky eyes!”
And Inglessis says Wilde is always up for rocking her go-to look. “Olivia and I have ben working together for so long,” she says. “She trusts me and barely looks in the mirror before I start, we talk.”
To get the look, Inglessis recommends defining the rim of the eyes with a kajal eyeliner pencil, like Revlon PhotoReady Kajal Matte Eye Pencil in Matte Coal. She then drew a thick liner on the top lid near the lash line and bottom lash. (Pro tip: “Don’t worry about precision as the line will be blended,” she says.)

The makeup pro then applied a creamy eye shadow to Wilde’s eyelids (Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color in Black Oyster) and then blended the liner into it to create the smoked-out effect.
“Blend until there is no more line definition but a soft blended color, and do the same on the bottom lash line. Keep the darkest of the color on the outer corner of the eyes — don’t go over the crease,” Inglessis advises.
For an extra-smoky effect, she says to apply the eyeliner to waterline, which is the inner rim of the eye, to really make your eyes pop.

Inglessis finished the smoky eye with a few swipes of Revlon Ultimate All In One Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes.
Lastly, she teamed the heavy eye with a nude lip (Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in Nude) to keep the eye the focus of the look, and because Inglessis loves to play up the star’s eyes, in case you haven’t caught on.
As for the final look, Wilde loved it, says Inglessis. “Olivia is so confident and beautiful, she trusts her team and is always happy with the final look,” she confessed.
