Lexi Underwood didn't need to experience the '90s to nail the decade's fashion trends. On May 31, the 19-year-old actor wore a denim optical illusion dress à la Britney Spears at the 2001 AMAs while attending the "Cruel Summer" season two premiere party in Los Angeles. The floor-length gown, styled by Bryon Javar, was printed with a mosaic of denim pieces in all washes, creating the appearance that it was entirely made of stitched-together denim.
"Sneak peek of the premiere look," she captioned an Instagram Stories video before the event. The halter dress featured five buttons lined down the bodice, and from behind, it also included a massive triangular back cutout and butt pockets complete with faux stitching.
Underwood paired the outfit with silver hoop earrings and geometric bangles that resembled belt buckles. Her makeup artist, Lilly Keys Westbrook, and hairstylist, Kendria Spratt, completed the look with glittery ombré eyeshadow, brushed-up eyebrows, a neutral, lined lip, and two half-up pigtails that radiated Baby Spice energy. Underwood also wore a squared-off french manicure.
Seeing as the series is set in the '90s, the party's 1999 theme was fitting, and Underwood and her costars fit right in with head-to-toe retro looks. Also in attendance at the celebration were Lisa Yamada, Griffin Gluck, Sadie Stanley, Braeden De La Garza, Nile Bullock, Tedra Rogers, and executive producer Jessica Biel. During the party, Underwood joined some of her cast mates on stage to perform a karaoke version of "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin. Later in the evening, a few of the cast members also crammed into a photo booth to mark the occasion.
